We're delighted that you are interested in our beautiful, historic neighborhood and would like to invite you to join the Historic Overlook Community Club. The neighborhood is a very welcoming and friendly place to live - we would love to include you in our organization!

Meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm. We meet at the Southmayd Home on Columbia Blvd. Just go in the front door and follow the signs. We have a lot of fun planned for this year.

" SOUP PARTY: For starters, we had a "souper" bowl party in February … but there's no football involved. This was a soup tasting party where everyone brought a homemade soup -- or bread, wine, or dessert. It was a great way to beat the winter blahs!

" TAG SALE: On May 4th we had a neighborhood wide tag sale on Sunday. Everyone who wanted to participate signed up; we had a map of all participating houses. The beauty of a Sunday tag sale is that most of the other tag sales have only leftovers by that time - so our neighborhood was the first stop for most.

" PLANTINGS: On May 31 and July 5, we got together and planted perennials at two of the Gateways into Overlook - check out the flowers at Columbia Blvd & Pine St. and at Willow & Roseland!

" PROGRESSIVE DINNER PARTY: June 21 was our progressive dinner party. We had a 3 course beautiful dinner served at 3 different lovely homes in the neighborhood - the food was great and everyone had a terrific time.

" PIZZA PARTY: On Aug 8, the Big Green Pizza Truck came to Overlook. This is an antique truck that has been refurbished with a wood fired brick pizza oven built into it. They serve a never ending stream of thin crust pizzas, salad, and then gelato for dessert. We had 66 attendees ….what a great time!

" HOUSE TOUR: On Sunday, Sept. 14th, we will have a historic house tour from 1-4pm featuring 7 of the one-of-a kind homes that make our neighborhood so unique. The homes show off different styles ranging from the gorgeous woodwork often associated with Arts and Crafts, the charm of jewel tones and cozy rooms of a Four Square charmer, and the opulent grandeur of some of the largest examples of Colonial Revival homes.

" WINE TASTING: Our annual meeting will be combined with a wine tasting in October.

" TREE LIGHTING: And finally, in early December, we'll have the annual tree lighting ceremony for the holidays on Columbia Blvd. complete with Santa Claus for the kids. We have the largest live decorated tree in Connecticut, right here on our boulevard.

All our events are held at homes in the neighborhood - so not only do you get to talk to the people, you have a chance to see the other beautiful old houses. Our community club is quite active. We regularly meet with a community police officer, bring our political leaders in when there are issues, and try to help each other out on small daily matters. We hope you will join us - fill out the attached form and send it in with your annual dues of $20. In the meantime, feel free to give me a call at 597-1988 or email me at sallyodle@comcast.net if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Sally Odle
President
